4 billion trees must be planted to reverse deforestation

Every minute, a forest area equivalent to 36 football fields is destroyed. In one year, this represents more than 13 million hectares lost, an area similar to the size of Greece or Nicaragua. The consequences are doubly negative for our planet: approximately 17% of CO2 emissions, one of the biggest causes of climate change, are products of deforestation.

Globally, the loss of forests has more of an impact on greenhouse emissions than the entire transport sector. On the other hand, trees act as the planet's lungs, absorbing CO2 from the atmosphere, retaining carbon and releasing oxygen. A human being emits an average of 9 tons of CO2 per year and a single tree is capable of cleaning up to 250 kg of this CO2 during its lifetime. This is why, with each tree destroyed, we are not only emitting more CO2 into the atmosphere, but also worsening the situation, suppressing one of our greatest allies in the fight against climate change.

A platform that has already planted 5 million trees to combat climate change

Tree-Nation, the reforestation platform with the largest number of planting projects and 5 million trees planted across 4 continents, was founded with the aim of combating climate change. Tree-Nation's international proposal to plant trees and offset CO2 emitted into the atmosphere stands out for bringing together reforestation initiatives around the world on a single platform, facilitating the participation of citizens, companies and planters. It currently has 70 plantation projects located in 33 countries, in which more than 118,000 citizens and 1,500 companies have already participated and continue to grow thanks to the collaboration of the population to reforest the earth's surface.

“We cannot win the fight against climate change without stopping deforestation. We need to plant 4 billion trees per year, over the next 10 years, just to reverse the deforestation we have caused in the last decade”, says Maxime Renaudin, founder and director of Tree-Nation. “Trees are 100 times cheaper than the other solution discovered to date to store CO2. In addition to retaining carbon and releasing oxygen into the atmosphere, trees offer many other environmental and social benefits and, most importantly, they are a natural resource that grows on its own and does not require the exploitation of other resources for its production”, points out Renaudin .

Tree-Nation, based in Barcelona, uses its own technology to make it easier to plant trees and reforest the planet. The platform has more than 300 tree species available, enabling people and companies to participate in reforestation projects around the world. Each planted tree is also assigned a URL, which allows daily monitoring of its growth or CO2 compensation levels, among other data, in addition to the possibility of giving it to someone else if desired. The platform also offers companies a tool to link tree planting with their performance, sales or service objectives, as part of marketing or sustainability initiatives.

“Trees address some of the most dangerous problems facing our generation: pollution, species extinction, climate change, desertification, deforestation, flooding, poverty, malnutrition and even deadly viruses. For many of these problems, planting trees is a critical part of the solution and we, as individuals or companies, can put our grain of sand into the fight for a more sustainable future”, says Maxime Renaudin.
