Minister orders coffee stock survey to be re-done after complaint from producer in ES

Brazil's Minister of Agriculture, Blairo Maggi, said this Monday that he ordered a re-doing of coffee stocks after producers of the Robusta grain in Espírito Santo disputed the numbers from a recent survey.

Amid a shortage of the product, the federal government is considering allowing imports of Robusta coffee, a request from the industry that faces opposition from farmers.

The minister has already stated that he is in favor of imports, but the decision depends on further discussions, after President Michel Temer recommended conversations with producers. Blairo meets on Tuesday with the governor of Espírito Santo.
