Ukraine wanted another year of extension.

The Black Sea cereals agreement, which releases grains from Russia and Ukraine, was extended for 120 days, according to what the Ukrainian Minister of Infrastructure reported, after negotiations with the Secretary-General of the United Nations, António Guterres, and the President of Ukraine, Volodymyr Zelensky. Therefore, the United Nations (UN) and Turkey remain responsible for the operation.

According to Kubrakov, Ukraine wanted this extension to last for one year. “The agreement will be extended for 120 days. [the authorities] have taken another important step in the global fight against the food crisis. We officially appeal to partners with a proposal to extend the Initiative for 1 year and include the port of Mykolaiv in it. It is also important to ensure the effective functioning of the JCC. We present our proposals for resolving existing problems. We are awaiting the official announcement from the leaders of the United Nations and Turkey”, he said, on his profile on the social network Twitter.

The UN Secretary General celebrated the agreement and congratulated those responsible for the extension. “I welcome the agreement reached by all parties to maintain” the cereals agreement to “facilitate the safe navigation of exports of cereals, food and fertilizers from Ukraine”, said Guterres, quoted by Reuters.

“The cereal agreement will be extended for 120 days. Ukraine, together with António Guterres and Erdogan, made important decisions in the global fight against the food crisis. Waiting for the official statement from partners Türkiye and the UN,” Zelensky wrote on Twitter. Russia and Ukraine are responsible for almost a third of world wheat exports.
