Brazil will receive 1st phosphate factory

A company from Morocco, OCP, announced that it is bringing its phosphate factory to Brazil, according to the Group's CEO, Mostafa Terrab, during a meeting in Rabat, with the Minister of Agriculture, Livestock and Supply of Brazil, Marcos Montes. He states that it will be very valuable to have the factory in Maranhão and the company is ready to give priority to the Brazilian market with phosphates.

In this context, the president of OCP Fertilizers in Brazil, Olavio Takenaka, told ANBA that it will be the company's first phosphate factory in Brazil and that the products will be made with phosphate rock imported from Morocco. The company already has land six kilometers from the Port of Itaqui, in Maranhão. According to the executive, the engineering project is being finalized for authorities to approve. “We are even planning a dicalcium phosphate factory for animal feed,” said Takenaka.

“OCP is a world leader in the production of phosphorus and derivatives. The company holds 70% of global phosphorus reserves. The company president told a little about the history of OCP, which began operations in 1920, initially focused on the production of phosphate rock only, and after a development process, reached final products. OCP produces everything from phosphoric acid to fertilizers such as MAP, TSP, DAP, NP, NPKs, as well as nutrients for animal feed, among others”, adds ANBA.

The meeting was attended by the Brazilian ambassador to Morocco, Julio Bitelli, the embassy's agricultural attaché, Nilson Guimarães, the president of the Brazilian Agricultural Research Corporation (Embrapa), Celso Moretti, executives from the Ministry of Agriculture and the Brazilian Secretariat of Strategic Affairs , the Organization of Brazilian Cooperatives (OCB) and the National Confederation of Agriculture and Livestock (CNA).
