Conab confirms record grain production in the country

Grain production in the country will even be a record. It is estimated at 250.5 million tons, that is, 8.5 million tons (3.5%) more than what was harvested in 2018/19. The data was released by the National Supply Company (Conab), this Tuesday (9).

The 9th Survey of the 2019/2020 Harvest shows that the sown area was 65.6 million hectares, with an increase of 2.3 million hectares (3.6%) over the last harvest.

With the harvest completed for practically all first-crop crops, and the second crop in progress, what remains now is the completion of the planting of winter crops and the resulting numbers for the third harvest. Furthermore, it will be necessary to observe climatic behavior, which can influence the productivity of these crops.

Soy in the sky

The oilseed harvest is going very well and production is a record 120.4 million tons, 4.7% more than in the last harvest. 36.8 million hectares were sown, an increase of 2.7%. The largest producer continues to be Mato Grosso, with an area of more than 10 million hectares and 35.4 million tons, a growth of 9.2%.

The state that had the greatest growth in production was Paraná, increasing from 16.2 million tons to 20.7 million tons, an increase of 27.8%. Rio Grande do Sul suffered the impacts of a severe drought, having a significant drop of 43.4%, a higher rate than previously projected.

Corn valued

Total corn, the sum of the first, second and third harvests, reaches a record 101 million tons, with an area of 18.5 million hectares. Production in the three harvests should reach, respectively, 25.4 million tons, 74.2 million tons and 1.33 million tons. In cereals, Mato Grosso also leads, with 34.2 million tons, an increase of 9.5%. In Rio Grande do Sul, the biggest drop was also repeated, of 31.8%, closing at just 3.9 million tons, almost two million less.

After establishing itself as a profitable option for producers who make better use of the planting window in the second harvest, the third corn harvest begins to emerge in the Sealba region (Sergipe, Alagoas and northeastern Bahia). The estimate for this year is a harvest of 1.3 million tons.

Other grains

The rice harvest is nearing the end and its production is estimated at 11.1 million tons, 6.5% higher than the volume produced in the last harvest. Bean production will reach 3.07 million tons, 1.9% higher than that obtained in 2018/19.

Finally, in winter crops, wheat has good prospects, with a growth of 6.7% in the area to be cultivated and production expected to reach 5.7 million tons, depending on climate behavior.
