The record prices for paddy rice should encourage producers to increase the area next season, according to information from Cepea. From August 31st to September 8th, the ESALQ/SENAR-RS rice indicator, 58% whole grains, with cash payment, registered a significant increase of 10.8%, closing at R$ 104.17/50 kg bag this Tuesday - fair, the 8th – renewing its real historical record in the Cepea series (deflated by the IGP-DI of August/20).
According to the Cepea newsletter, they state that the increases continue to be linked to heated demand. It is worth remembering that rice farmers are still evaluating costs and revenues, as well as the outlook for the marketing period in 2021, to effectively decide the area to be allocated to the cereal.
Specifically in Rio Grande do Sul, the largest rice producing state, the area to be sown is expected to grow by 3.5% compared to the previous crop year, reaching 969.2 thousand hectares in the 2020/21 season, according to information from the Rio Grandense Institute of Rice (Irga) released on September 3rd.
