Minister Tereza Cristina (Agriculture, Livestock and Supply) participates this Tuesday (13) in the 18th Meeting of the Government Council, led by President Jair Bolsonaro, at Palácio da Alvorada.
At the meeting, the minister will present data on agriculture and livestock farming in Brazil, such as the share of agribusiness in the national GDP, export destinations, the country's position in the world ranking, technologies adopted to increase productivity and the ministry's strategies to boost national productivity and also agriculture in the Northeast.
Some of the information to be presented by the minister shows that agribusiness is responsible for 21,14% of the country's Gross Domestic Product (GDP). Last year, exports totaled US$102 billion, a record amount. The agricultural sector generates 18 million jobs, 20% of the country's workforce.
In world trade, Brazil is the third largest exporter of agricultural products, leading in sales of sugar, coffee, orange juice, soybeans, beef and chicken. Currently, the country accounts for 6.9% of the global agricultural market, but the challenge is to increase its share and diversify the range of products, with the increase in trade in fruits and dairy products.
The goals for the coming years are sustainable production, land governance in the countryside, promotion of product quality and development and dissemination of technologies to increase competitiveness.
