Agribusiness exports grow 20.8% in value in the 1st half

Agricultural exports totaled US$ 12.1 billion in June 2021, an increase of 25% compared to the same period in 2020, according to an analysis carried out by the Brazilian Confederation of Agriculture and Livestock (CNA) based on data from the Ministry of Economy. The monthly performance was favored by the continued upward movement in commodity prices.

The sector accounted for 43.1% of the total exported by Brazil in June. In the first half of the year, foreign sales reached US$ 61.5 billion, an increase of 20.8% compared to the first six months of last year.

Among the most sold items abroad, the main one was soybeans, with revenue US$ 5.3 billion, an increase of 23.4% compared to the same month in 2020. The product had a share of 43.8% in total shipments . The runner-up was raw cane sugar, with an increase of 30.1% compared to June last year, reaching US$ 821.9 million.

According to CNA, other products stood out in foreign sales. The most significant increases in revenue from product exports in June this year in the monthly comparison with 2020 were for plywood or plywood (+291.3%), cotton not carded or combed (+111.4%) and fresh chicken meat (+46.3%).

Also in June 2021, 74.1% of shipments went to ten markets. China was the main one, with a share of 38.7% of Brazilian agricultural exports, followed by the European Union (15.7%) and the United States (6.1%). Completing the list are Thailand (2.7%), Turkey (2.3%), South Korea (2.1%), Mexico (1.9%), Taiwan (1.7%), Iran (1.6%) and Bangladesh (1 ,5%).

Of these countries, the biggest changes in sales in June/2021 compared to June/2020 were to Taiwan (+131.9%) and Mexico (+117.2%), with emphasis on soybeans. In the first half of 2021, the biggest increases compared to the same period last year were for Iran (+154.8%), Mexico (+51.0%) and Thailand (+37.1%), where soybean exports in grains also stood out.

Agro.BR – All sectors analyzed by CNA within the Agro.BR project increased in June. This initiative, aimed at small and medium-sized rural entrepreneurs, is carried out in partnership with Apex Brasil to increase the supply of Brazilian agricultural products in foreign trade and promote the diversification of Brazilian exports.

Foreign sales of beekeeping products grew by 112.9% in June this year compared to the same month last year, generating revenue of US$ 21.4 million. Highlight is natural honey, responsible for 93.3% of the total (revenue of US$ 20 million). The main destinations were: United States, with 71% of the total, followed by the European Union (15.2%), Japan (3.6%), Canada (3.5%) and Australia (3.5%).

Dairy exports totaled US$ 11.2 million in June 2021, an increase of 102.9% compared to June 2020. The most exported items were: powdered milk (US$ 5.5 million), cheeses (US$ 1.2 million ), modified milk (US$ 1.1 million), condensed milk (US$ 1.0 million) and cream (US$ 980.3 thousand). The main consumer markets were: Algeria (48.5% of the total), Venezuela (12.0%), Chile (7.4%), Argentina (4.6%) and Uruguay (4.3%). The tea, mate and spices, fish and fruit sectors saw increases in their exports in June this year compared to June/2020, 50.5%, 48.1% and 46.8%, respectively.
