The Senate approved on Tuesday (15) the creation of a temporary external commission to act diplomatically with the US Congress. The objective is, in order to find a solution to President Donald Trump's decision to adopt tariffs of 50% about Brazilian products, establish channels of dialogue.
In addition, the group, made up of four senators, will travel to Washington between July 29 and 31 and will operate for 60 days.
The request for the creation of the commission (RQS 556/2025) was presented by the president of the Foreign Affairs and National Defense Committee (CRE), Senator Nelsinho Trad (PSD-MS).
According to him, the idea is to build a "bridge of dialogue" with the United States, especially at a time when traditional diplomatic channels are facing difficulties.
According to the senator, Brazilian meatpacking plants are evaluating whether to continue exporting beef to the United States. Consequently, other sectors are also concerned about the tariff hike, which is scheduled to take effect on August 1st.
"Businesspeople need predictability. We need to address this situation. Therefore, let's seek this understanding, open this dialogue, and understand exactly what's happening," said the senator.
Earlier, the CRE discussed the tariff hike with representatives from the federal government and the production sector.
