The World Organization for Animal Health (OIE) reported that 236 new outbreaks of African swine fever were reported worldwide between October 2nd and 15th, compared to 313 cases reported in the previous survey. The total number of ongoing outbreaks rose from 7,429 to 7,522, with 3,976 in Romania alone and 1,475 in Vietnam. Of the new outbreaks, 193 were reported in Europe, 42 in Asia and 1 in Africa. The data comes from a biweekly survey released by the OIE.

According to the OIE, new or ongoing outbreaks have been recorded in 22 countries. In Europe, Germany, Bulgaria, Latvia, Moldova, Poland, Romania, Russia, Serbia and Ukraine still have an incidence of the disease. In Asia, China, India, Indonesia, North Korea, South Korea, Papua New Guinea, Philippines, Russia, East Timor and Vietnam have ongoing cases. In Africa, Namibia, Nigeria, South Africa and Zambia report the presence of the virus.
During the survey coverage period, losses of 7,389 animals were reported in Romania and 3,091 in Poland. In Asia, losses of 1,741 animals were reported in South Korea, 81 in Russia and 70 in China. In Africa, there was a loss of 3 animals in South Africa.
