In exports, chicken meat obtains the best result in the last five years

Last November, for the third time in the current year, shipments of chicken meat were lower than in the same month of the previous year, falling to the second lowest level in 2021. This, however, did not affect the results accumulated between January and November, almost 8.5% higher than in the same period of 2020. In these 11 months, the volume of the four main exported items – whole chicken, cuts, salted meat and processed chicken – totaled 4.072 million tons – 316,285 tons more than the same previous months.

As the increase in volume was accompanied by a significant increase in the average price of the product – in the first five months of the current semester, almost 30% more than in the same period of 2020 – the increase in foreign exchange revenue is much more significant. Because the almost US$6.8 billion accumulated in the period represents an increase of close to 25% over the same 11 months last year.

With the performance observed so far, 2021 should end with the highest volume ever exported by the Brazilian chicken industry, thus surpassing the record held since 2016, when shipments for the year were slightly above 4.3 million tons .

However, despite the strong appreciation of the product throughout the year, foreign exchange revenue can, at best, reach the value recorded in 2012, when the sector's revenue reached US$7.7 billion. In other words: it still tends to remain below what was recorded in 2011, 2013 and 2014, years in which the foreign exchange revenue from exported chicken meat ranged between a minimum of US$7.9 and US$8.2 billion annually.

In any case, both foreign exchange revenue and shipped volume present, this year, the best result of the 2017/2021 five-year period.
