China will release 20,000 tons of frozen pork from its state reserves on Jan. 9, a notice said on the China Commodity Reserves Management Center website on Monday.

The announcement of the release comes on the eve of the Lunar New Year holiday in late January, China's peak period for pork consumption.

Beijing has released more than 100,000 tons of frozen pork from state reserves since last month to bolster supplies after African swine fever devastated the nation's pig herd.
