Brazil suspends imports of pork products from Germany after PSA case

Posted by Marina

According to a note from the Ministry of Agriculture, Livestock and Supply (MAPA), on Monday (14) "the import of fresh and unprocessed pork from Germany" was suspended. According to the statement, "the decision was motivated by the registration of a case of African swine fever in one of dead boar" in the European country.

Germany reported the case of African Swine Fever last Thursday (10), and since then South Korea, Japan, China, Argentina and Brazil have suspended purchases of pork products. The European Union is the main world exporter of the protein, and Germany is among the main countries in the bloc to commercialize the protein.

In a statement made to the German authorities, the Map asks the health authorities of that country for detailed information on the biosafety measures adopted by German industrial plants.
