Drop in sales puts downward pressure on prices in the pork market

The pork market fell this week. The decline in sales at the end of the chain, which is common at this time of the month due to the decapitalization of the population, was the main reason for the reduction in prices. On farms in São Paulo, the finished animal is priced, on average, at R$78.00/@, a drop of 2.5% in the last seven days.

At wholesale, the carcass is being traded, on average, at R$6.00/kg, compared to R$6.20/kg in the previous week, a drop of 3.2%. Despite the recent devaluation, the average price in 2017, in the partial period up to August, is 15.6% higher than in the same period last year. In the short term, demand is expected to continue slowly.
