With the 2020/21 soybean harvest delayed compared to previous years, Rio Grande do Sul has recorded cases of water stress in some crops and the spread of Asian rust disease, although the result of pests is considered to be Small, Emater reported. -RS this Thursday.
“The reduction and even the absence of rain in some regions already makes the water stress of the crop in certain areas apparent. The presence of pests is generally low; However, Asian rust is increasing in the state's crops,” said technicians from the government-linked body in a statement.
Producers in Rio Grande do Sul have not yet started harvesting soybeans, due to late planting marked by drought at the beginning of the season. In the same period last harvest, work was at 5% and the historical average for this time of year is at least 3%.

The majority of soybeans are in the grain filling phase (56%), an increase of 2 percentage points in the weekly comparison. Another 15% is in the maturation stage, ahead of 6% in the previous week.
In corn, the summer harvest advanced to 55% of areas, compared to 48% last week. The work exceeds both the same period of the previous year (54%) and the historical average (47%).
“In areas to the north, the harvest is advanced and yields are lower. In regions where the crop develops well, productivity is excellent”, stated Emater. However, “many crops have stunting problems”, he warned.
