Selection of vessels for mullet fishing will be by draw

The Secretariat of Aquaculture and Fisheries of the Ministry of Agriculture, Livestock and Supply (Mapa) publishes this Wednesday (10), in the Official Gazette of the Union, two ordinances establishing criteria and procedures for granting additional fishing authorization for mullet. “We will use the lottery method to grant authorizations,” said Márcio Alves, director of the Department of Registration, Monitoring and Control of Aquaculture and Fisheries.

Márcio Alves explained that the draws will be carried out on Mapa and coordinated by the organizing committee provided for in the ordinances. There will be broadcast on the ministry's Facebook, “as we want to make the process transparent”, he stated. Interested parties must register exclusively through an electronic form available on the Mapa website.

The ordinances deal with the types of coastal surface gillnetting that uses rings and seines (both with nets) for the 2017 fishing season, in the Southeast and South regions. The draw for the gillnet fleet will take place on May 17th, at 10 am, and the siege fleet will be drawn on May 24th, also at 10 am. Both will be in MAPA's largest auditorium and broadcast on the following website: https://www.agricultura.faceboock.com/MinAgricultura.

The ordinances establish all the criteria for qualification, registration, qualification analysis, draw and classification, publication of the result and final provisions.

Registration for the gillnet modality can be made at the following email address: http://sistemas.agricultura.gov.br/agroform/site/formulario.php?id_aplicacao=207, on May 10th, between 8 am and 11:59 pm on May 11th. In the siege mode, registrations will begin at 8 am, on May 15th, until 11:59 pm the following day (16th). The link for registration in this modality will be announced later.

The maximum number of fishing authorizations for gillnetting is 62 vessels and the maximum fishing effort for the fleet to be authorized cannot exceed 80% of the sum of gross tonnage (AB) of 2016, limiting the sum to 284 AB. The maximum number of authorizations for purse-seine fishing is 32 vessels and the maximum fishing effort for the purse-seine fleet cannot exceed 80% of the sum of the gross tonnage of the 2016 harvest, being limited to the sum of 1,188 AB.
