Soybeans and grains were again higher in overnight trading amid worsening crop forecasts in Nebraska and Indiana, according to agriculture.com. The Pro Farmer Crop Tour showed projected yields well below what was seen last year for soybeans and corn in both states.

Corn yield forecasts and pod counts for Nebraska are down 13% year over year. In Indiana, the corn yield outlook is down 8.1% from last year, while the bean pod count is down 5.9%, Pro Farmer said. Field reports are showing some corn damage and hail in fields in Indiana and parts of Illinois. In Nebraska, participants indicated signs of drought during critical growth stages.

This is also below the 60% that achieved top ratings at the same point last year. Four percent of the crop was ripe at the start of the week, on par with the average for this time of year. About 31% was dented, below the average of 35%, and 75% was silky versus normal 79%, the government said.

About 57% of soybeans were in good or excellent condition, down from 58% the previous week. Eighty-four percent of the crop was bearing fruit, slightly below the previous five-year average of 86%, the USDA said.
