The sale of live pigs compared to the value spent to acquire the main raw material used to feed the farm indicates that 2021 has been the worst moment in recent years for pig farmers. This is because with the sale of one arroba of finished live pigs, the breeder has managed to acquire only 1,366 bags of corn, meaning a drop of more than 31% compared to the purchasing capacity achieved last year.

Considering the period of the last seven years, the greatest purchasing power of the grain was reached during 2017, when the breeder managed to acquire almost 2.5 bags, equivalent to a purchasing power 81.5% higher than the current one.
And despite experiencing large losses throughout the year, the market does not signal changes in the short term that could provide a significant change in the relationship achieved. And this could mean, in the medium and long term, the inability to maintain the productive squad targeting the domestic and foreign markets.
