The beef sector in Brazil is following with apprehension the developments of the United States government's decision to impose tariffs of 50% on Brazilian products. Therefore, the measure, announced last week, generated concern among exporters, especially given the importance of the North American market for the sector.

According to the Agricultural Situation Bulletin, released this Thursday (17) by the Department of Rural Economy (Deral), of the State Secretariat of Agriculture and Supply of Paraná (Seab), the next shipments of Brazilian protein to the United States are under analysis. The information was released by the Brazilian Association of Meat Exporting Industries (Abiec).

According to the organization's data, the United States was the second-largest destination for Brazilian beef in 2024, accounting for approximately 8% of total exports. "Concerns about the North American market are legitimate," Abiec emphasized.

The Deral bulletin also reported that, through mid-July, beef prices had fallen by 5.29%. Prices are currently trading at R$ 300.60, according to a survey by the Center for Advanced Studies in Applied Economics (Cepea).

Industry representatives hope the federal government will intensify diplomatic efforts to negotiate a postponement or reduction of the imposed tariffs, following the example of negotiations with other countries. However, to date, there has been no concrete progress in the negotiations.
