US President Donald Trump said on Friday that China had violated a trade deal rates with the largest economy in the world.

“China, perhaps not surprisingly to some, HAS COMPLETELY VIOLATED ITS AGREEMENT WITH THE USA,” Trump said in a post on Truth Social.

U.S.-China trade talks are “a little bit stalled” and concluding a new deal will likely require direct involvement from Trump and Chinese President Xi Jinping, U.S. Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent told Fox News on Thursday.

Two weeks after talks that resulted in a temporary truce in the trade war between the world's two largest economies, Bessent said progress since then had been slow but he expected more talks in the coming weeks.

The US-China deal to cut tariffs for 90 days sparked big gains in global stocks.

However, the deal did not address the underlying reasons for Trump’s tariffs on Chinese goods. The US primarily complains about China’s state-dominated and export-oriented economic model. Negotiators left those substantive issues for future talks.
