In April, India achieved production of 1.417 million tons of mineral fertilizers, an increase of 45.1% compared to the same period last year, as reported by the Indian Ministry of Chemical Industry. Since November 2019, the country has recorded double-digit growth in sales of this type of fertilizer.
NPK fertilizers grew the most, with an increase of 81.4% or 390 thousand tons. Next is diammonium phosphate with 71.7% or 297 thousand tons. Potassium chloride registered an increase of 43% or 133 thousand tons. Carbamide increased by 36.5%, reaching 1.095 million tons.
“Farmers were able to expand the cultivated area. Now they plan to use the high soil moisture during the Kharif season (rainy season). By the way, sales in April have already shown good results,” said a representative of the mineral fertilizer industry.
Last year, according to data from Comexstat, Brazilian expenditure on fertilizer imports reached the record of the last five years, consuming US$ 9.33 billion, an increase of more than 6% over the previous year. Much of this volume comes from India.
