Bovine plasma: Sustainable and high-performance nutrition

Have you ever thought that blood collected at slaughter could become a premium feed ingredient? That's exactly what bovine plasma does. After being collected, the blood is treated with anticoagulants, filtered to separate the red blood cells, and spray-dried into a stable, creamy powder with extremely high digestibility.

In post-weaning pigs — the most critical phase of the entire cycle — 2 to 4 % inclusions are enough to reduce mortality by up to 50 % and accelerate growth without resorting to preventive doses of antibiotics. In broilers and layers, the same logic applies: initial diets with plasma maintain the intestinal mucosa intact, improve feed conversion and protect the flock against enteric pathogens. In aquaculture, studies with tilapia and juvenile shrimp indicate better absorption of nutrients and superior immune response, while in pet food the ingredient is used in therapeutic or growth diets, ensuring premium digestibility and post-surgical support.

The appeal is not just zootechnical. By adding value to a byproduct that was previously discarded, plasma closes the cycle of the circular economy, reduces waste and reduces pressure on plant-based protein sources. Specialized companies — such as Hemoprot in Brazil or APC in the global market — ensure traceability, microbiological control and particle standardization, guaranteeing food safety and practicality of use in the feed mill.

At Aboissa, we work with single- or multi-species plasma, deliver batch reports and help you define the ideal inclusion level for each phase of the animal. Do you need to compare cost-benefit or request a sample? Count on us.
